Fishing
in Howard County, MD
"2nd Longest Day of the
Year" 6/22/07 Mark
Burchick
First cast with a
Cavitron buzzbait,
and Mark nails
a nice black
crappie. I
like the Cavitron
because of the holes
in the blade that
create a unique
sound, ripple and
slows the action.
Knowing that
crappie hang
together, Mark
cast right back
to the same
location and
pulled in a
second fish.
I've never seen
crappie caught
on a buzzbait
before!
It was
absolutely
glorious to be
outside today,
sunny, breezy,
low
humidity with a
temperature of
about
80-degrees.
This hybrid
(domestic?) mallard
followed us
everywhere we
fished.
I tried a new
soft plastic
bait that I've
never used
before, called
the Yamamoto
4-inch Fat IKA,
which is similar
to a tube bait.
I caught two
bass with it.
I did not catch
anything using
my ol' reliable
Reaction
Innovation,
Sweet Beaver.
Senko worms were
good, but the
absolute best
bait of the day
was the
Yamamoto, green
pumpkin,
Kreature.
Mark and Jeb
caught three to
four fish each
using the
Kreature.
I tried another
new bait called
the Yamamoto
5-inch Crawdad,
black & blue
laminate, with
that bait
catching me two
bass. You
know the adage
about Yamamoto
soft plastics,
"One and Done."
One strike and
the Yamamoto's
are torn beyond
re-use.
Jeb points to
his fish, the
larger one, as
Jeb and I got a
two-fer, at the
same time.
Jeb was really
liking the
Kreature!
Mark found a
baby box turtle
about the size
of a silver
dollar, and no,
he did not try
to use him as
bait to catch
this largemouth.
